A Rebel's Home Companion
A Journey Through Stability, Serenity, Strength, Service

A Rebel’s Home Companion recognizes the magnificence of each human being and offers full support as that spark of beauty rebels against everything belittling and ugly. It is for each individual to stem the tide of tyranny that transforms the human being into the dehumanized servant of a brutal regime of thought and society. This is not the futile rebellion of violence, nor the shallow rebellion of the fashion statement. It is the profound journey through the stages of stability, serenity, strength and service - the stages through which the dissatisfied human becomes the rebel, the hero, the warrior, and finally the functioning being who serves the good of all Life. A Rebel’s Home Companion awakens courage, intelligence, kindness and clarity. It is self-help and spirituality at a matured level. Here at last is spirituality combined with philosophy, and self-help that is beyond selfishness. Written with the clarity of the sage, the bluntness of the zen master, the logic of the philosopher and the wit of the satirist, this book will surprise, delight, prod and encourage you from start to finish.

What is a Rebel?

The rebel is one who is able to be startled.

Rebel: Re- back,+ Bellum-to Battle. The English revulsion -a swift pulling back. The Rebel cannot compromise with absurdity but is compelled to battle, to question the outrageous.

Rebel - from the latin revel revelare revelat-to draw back the veil. The rebel, dissatisfied and alert, inquiring, pulls back the veil of illusion and seeks the truth in all things. A philosopher is always a rebel.

The work of the rebel is to follow the thread of truth that begins in himself and weaves its way through all life. His life is an active engagement with life, not suffering. He becomes a disciple of Life. Hence, in these books, the words rebel and disciple will be interchangeable. The ageless wisdom refers to the disciple as 'the divine rebel'.

The life of the rebel is a constant revelation that refines and purifies consciousness. Thus the rebel becomes wise, and his companions are the wise of all ages, past and yet to come. The rebel begins to know the Oneness of all things. He broadens into a mature human being, not needing to be saved, but capable of removing the obstacles that result in calamity. It is a life of ordering along the lines of love - the practical business of daily life as a human being. The disciple exhibits discipline in this endeavour.
